The Teenage Daughter
|
Patricia has been a regular
exhibitor in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. John Russell
Taylor, the art critic of the "Times" newspaper,
described her large painting "The
Teenage Daughter" (now in a private collection) as one of
the very few "out and out discoveries".
|
Although
there is a subtle surrealist quality to her work, we are reminded
of the 15th Century painters
with their purity of drawing
and marvellous use of colour.
It is a remarkable personal
vision, portraying women
in a way which some people
find calm and elusive,
others subtly erotic.

Patricia
O'Brien's paintings have
a concentrated stillness
created within her own
invented perspective. The
women, who are the
focus of her work, emanate
a mystical and evocative presence.
|
Her paintings are
represented in the celebrated Bridgeman Art Library in London,
Paris and New York. They have also been used, for the covers
of several books by Penelope Gilliatt and for the cover of
"Scent" by Annick Le Guérer. A half page in a
recent "Sunday Telegraph Review" section presented
her painting "The Picnic" illustrating an extract
from the best selling novel "Never Eat Your Heart
Out" by Judith Moore.

After
the Bath
|
Since
her first exhibition in
1978, collectors throughout
Europe, the United States,
Canada, The Netherlands,
Ireland, New Zealand and
Australia have sought her
work. During this time
she has had eleven individual
shows and taken part in
more than thirty group
exhibitions in England,
Ireland, France, North
America and Monaco.
|
Her
painting "The Fruit
Eaters" was the cornerstone
of the Royal Academy Summer
Exhibition promotion used
throughout the National
Press to commemorate their
222nd Anniversary Year.
